Liverpool's Liver Building could be set to get a swimming pool in its basement as part of long term plans to transform the landmark building.
Plans have been submitted to Liverpool Council on behalf of the building's owner, Corestate, to transform part of the ground and basement floors into a gym that would also include a jacuzzi, sauna, boxing ring and spinning room.
A report submitted with the planning application by Corestate, a consortium that includes Everton owner Farhad Moshiri , says it would allow more members of the public to access the Liver Building and create eight full time and 15 part time jobs.
The report says: "This would secure new investment, bringing a vacant space within the building back into beneficial economic use and also secure public access to the building, allowing visitors to enjoying this iconic building, at a time where other historic assets in the city are restricting access."

As well as the gym facilities, there would also be a cafe on the building's ground floor.
The new gym would be operated by Fitness4Less, with the company already running gyms in London, Bristol, Worcester and Watford.
The wider transformation of the Liver Building follows Corestate's purchase of the landmark in 2017 and has already led to a number of changes in the building.
That includes the creation of Royal Liver Building 360 , a tourist attraction that includes a guided tour of the building and its towers.
The application for the new gym will now be considered by the council's planners.
