You could live inside this Victorian 'castle' in Wavertree for a bargain price

A plush flat inside an historic mock 'castle' has come on the market in Merseyside - and it's a bit of a bargain.

The quirky Victorian building dates back to the 1870s and was once home to iron merchant Joseph Smith, before becoming a children's home run by nuns.

Up until recently, the property was used as a residential care home - but now known as Hollystead, the building is split into apartments.

The Grade II listed building is unlike anything else in Wavertree, with a turret on the right side of the building and rows of stunning balconies tucked away at the back.

A number of apartments inside the development are currently up for sale - including a three bedroom flat on the market with Abode.

With an asking price of £140,000, it's a pretty reasonable price tag to set up home in your very own 'castle'.

Nestled on Old Mill Lane, the L15 property is just a short distance from Picton Clock and Wavertree High Street beyond.

Photos uploaded to Zoopla offer a glimpse at the modern apartments inside the historic property - and the old building has certainly been transformed.

Inside the £140,000 flat up for sale with Abode, a spacious living room is currently furnished with a crushed velvet sofa and glittery decorations.

A large double bedroom holds a cushioned sleigh bed, with a further double bedroom with its own dressing area and a good sized bedroom.

The building has an unusual history - having once been home to iron merchant Joseph Smith who was a member of the Wavertree Local Board and a benefactor for the consumption hospital in Mount Pleasant.

In the 1970s, the property was used as a children's home run by Liverpool Catholic Childrens Social Services, and later a 16 bedroom care home.

While this Victorian folly obviously isn't a real castle, it's certainly a grand setting to be able to call home.
