Dozens of people across Nottinghamshire could potentially be entitled to huge sums of cash after residents died and no rightful heir could be found.
Research published today, September 8, by genealogy firm Anglia Research shows there were 79 unclaimed estates in the city alone during the third quarter of 2020. That is the 11th highest number in the country.
The firm used the Bona Vacantia list published by the Government to produce their findings, which places Birmingham as the city with the highest number of unclaimed estates - 234.
Philip Turvey, executive director at Anglia Research, said: "With daily reports warning of a deep, long recession, I urge anyone living in these cities and boroughs to investigate their family tree and see if they are a rightful beneficiary from one of the hundreds of estates.”
