A good book will always give the illusion that you are part of the action but now James Dashner, author of the popular Maze Runner series, has taken that one step further. Fans of the series can now choose their own path in an interactive Twitter adventure tagged #ScorchMaze.
Alongside Brenda and Jorge you will explore the ‘Underneath’, a world no less dangerous than the zombie-infested one directly above it. You make the decisions, you control how the story ends. This time there is no glass screen between you and the characters, and no escape.
Dystopian fiction often leaves a reader helpless and mentally exhausted, but with #ScorchMaze that will completely change. There are multiple endings to the game and yours will depend solely on the decisions you make.
If you live in the UK, the opportunity to be involved in the franchise stretches beyond the game: on successfully completing the maze, you can enter a competition to have your name featured in the upcoming prequel to the franchise, The Fever Code.
James Dashner has said how excited he is about using the social media platform to launch the game: “As an author and fan of Twitter, it’s been great creating a different kind of story idea for people to explore online and on their phones for free.”
One wonders if this is a bit ironic given the propensity for technologically caused disasters in dystopias, but fans on Twitter seem very keen to be involved:
