'You cannot imagine how lucky I am' Tourist's delight as bike stolen in Edinburgh is recovered

A tourist who was left heartbroken after his treasured BMW motorbike was stolen during a visit to Edinburgh has received some good news.

Michael Kuhn returned to Germany without the motorbike he has owned for 19 years earlier this week.

The BMW K 1200 RS was taken from outside Fraoch guesthouse on Pilrig Street, where he and some friends were staying, on Friday night.

Edinburgh Live reported yesterday that Michael had been left upset by the theft – and was frustrated at having to return home without his treasured possession.

However news broke just hours later that police had recovered some stolen bikes in the areas – and Michael found out a short time later that his was one of them.

He said: "It's always good to get some good news to the press to let people know we are working hard to try and stop this behaviour.

"I have already identified my bike on a picture. I will receive information when I can pickup my bike once released from the police.

"You cannot imagine how lucky I am. For me personally, the happy ending of the fraught story will be once the bike is back in my garage again."

Police confirmed that they had recovered the bike, along with another which was stolen from Hampton Terrace on 2 June.

They add that inquiries are ongoing.
