You can watch Jurassic Park on a big screen surrounded by wild animals in Bristol this summer

You may be more familiar with hearing a lion's roar at Bristol Zoo Gardens, but wild animals of another era will be coming back to life there this summer with even bigger voices.

Steven Spielberg's classic Jurassic Park will be shown as part of the venue's Summer Screens series, which kicks off on August 28.

There will be five big-screen outdoor showings and viewers can watch surrounded by lions, gorillas, meerkats and lorikeets.

Other family favourites on offer include Bohemian Rhapsody and Mamma Mia, as well as recent Oscar-winning blockbusters Green Book and Black Panther.

Screenings take place on the main lawn and audiences can relax on beanbags and deckchairs while enjoying barbecue food, snacks and refreshments.

Guest services manager Tom Tanner said: “We have been running these events for a number of years now and they are always very popular. There’s something really special about watching a movie in the open air, especially inside the Zoo.

“The film screenings are the perfect way for families, couples and groups of friends to enjoy warm summer evenings in a unique and relaxing environment.”

He added: “We always have staff on hand to ensure sounds are carefully monitored and don’t exceed levels that are comfortable for our animal residents.

“Tickets are expected to sell fast, so check your diary, and book early. Get your loved ones together to enjoy a film screening like no other.”

Tickets provide access to the Zoo's top terrace and main lawn; however animal houses will be closed so as not to disrupt evening routines.

Bristol Zoo Gardens is one of only a handful of select venues running Summer Screens across the UK. The events always go ahead, whatever the weather.

Ticket prices start at £10.50 for children (5-17 years). People can also select single or double beanbags and deckchairs that guarantee a prime position and come complete with a complimentary drink, popcorn and chocolate.
