Former Spurs right-back Alan Hutton has stated that Serge Aurier's poor decision making the led to a red card against Southampton could lead Mauricio Pochettino to view him as a liability.
The Ivory Coast international has been battling with Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth for a starting role at Spurs this season, but he did himself no favours in Saturday afternoon's clash.
Spurs took the lead after 25 minutes through Tanguy Ndombele, but Aurier then picked up two yellow cards in a matter of minutes, and was sent off after just half an hour.
Southampton levelled less than 10 minutes later as Danny Ings capitalised on a Hugo Lloris mistake, but Harry Kane scored the game's winner just before half-time.
When asked if Aurier’s decision-making could cause Pochettino to view him as a liability, Hutton told Football Insider: "I think so.
"That could have turned the game easily with Tottenham on a bad run of form.
"I mean it’s just silly decisions, you can’t do that as a professional footballer, you can’t be acting like that.
"Four minutes between two yellows, it’s just silly, to be honest, I thought the second one was harsh, the ball looked like it could have gone out of play just before.
"Bertrand got the wrong side of him and he’s kind of had a little bit of a pull at him... but as an experienced player, you can’t do that."
Aurier will be suspended for Spurs' trip to face Brighton in the Premier League on October 5th.
