You can now text Tom Brady, but there’s probably a catch

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady wants to have a more direct line of contact with his fans. So he’s willingly giving them a phone number where they can chat. He posted a phone number to Twitter in a video released on Monday. It’s 415 612-1737.

“It’s a tool that will help me communicate with my fans and followers, where we can actually do a better job of responding to you and your questions and all the great messages,” he said in the video.

What’s the catch? Well, Brady does peddle a number of brands, including his own, TB12 Fitness. So it’s possible — and maybe even likely — that he’s going to use your phone number, not just for personal outreach but also for commercial outreach. (He’s probably going to try to sell you something.)

Here’s Brady’s video.

It’s not the first time a major athlete has done something like this. Both P.K. Subban and Linsey Vonn have done the same thing.

We called Brady’s number and the inbox is full. So we also texted, and we got the following response:

“What’s up! Yes, this is actually Tom Brady. This message is automated but everything else will come directly from me, on my phone. Click the link and add yourself so you’re in my contacts.”

It’ll be entertaining to see if Brady actually gets back to his fans — or if he spams them with messages about avocado ice cream.
