You can now take your dog into every John Lewis department store

Dog owners can now shop with their four-legged friends as John Lewis has announced dogs are allowed into their shops.

The department store chain lifted the ban earlier this year, but yesterday confirmed the policy over Twitter after a customer posed as their pooch requesting to visit the store for their birthday on Thursday.

This now means canines won't have to be left behind as the family head out on their shopping trip to either the Cheadle or Trafford Centre branch.

John Lewis & Partners were asked for permission on the social media platform to visit a Milton Keynes branch by a border terrier account called Scrappy Nelson.

The dog's tweet jokingly read: "Erm… excuse me @jlandpartners @jlpartnership are all your John Lewis Stores dog friendly?

"I heard a whisper from a pal and we @DuncanPickles would like to visit Milton Keynes for his Birthday on Thursday. Nothing do to with Mum wanting to go."

The retailer confirmed the rumours and replied saying "well behaved dogs only will be allowed in our shops and they must be on a fixed lead at all times, unless they are being carried."

Peter Cross, customer experience director at John Lewis & Partners, said they lifted the ban after they carried out a pilot in London.

He said: "We trialled allowing dogs in our Peter Jones shop last year and it was a big success so we now welcome dogs in all our shops.

"We have had very positive feedback from our customers and all our four legged shoppers so far have been very well behaved!"

Although only service dogs are allowed to enter the intu Trafford Centre shopping mall, there is a direct entrance from the street, therefore you can pop into the department store with your furry friend without any qualms.

Happy shopping!
