You can now take part in a virtual escape room - here's how you sign up

A new selection of live virtual escape rooms have been launched to keep friends and family entertained during lockdown. There are an estimated 1500 escape rooms throughout the UK, however all are now currently closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Up to eight different households can be part of the game at one time, and will be connected to a live games master. Created by Know Escape, the virtual version of the game will replace the physical one for the time being, in which groups of people would come together in a locked room to solve the puzzles that would allow them to escape.

The game can be played on most smartphones, laptops and tablets and is suitable for anyone over the age of eight years old. The games master will act as they would in a real game, providing help, hints and tips. Multiple players can be present from one device.

The first game launched online was 'Alex's Bathroom', which has now been followed by two more titles with more to come in the next few weeks.

Will Hazon, co-founder at Know Escape said, “We’ve had great fun rapidly building this game and I hope it helps people feel closer together at a time when they can’t be.

"This is a really exciting option for us while we can’t run our rooms, helping to keep our team in jobs and our business operational, as well as answering direct requests from our customers for something fun to do at home.”

The games start at £45, and players can book a live game slot here.

As a thank you to customers for standing by them during the current crisis, Know Escape will enrol every purchaser of an online game into its newly created ‘Heroes Club’, entitling them to exclusive content and discounts in the future.

Edinburgh Live are rebranding our What's On content as 'Stay In' during the lockdown. For more great ideas for things you can watch and do at home, visit our 'Stay In' homepage here.
