You can now stay in this gorgeous little thatched cottage in Swansea's favourite park

Ever fancied a little break away in a fairytale-style thatched cottage?

An opportunity has come up to do just that at Swansea's most beloved park.

Back in August last year, we reported on the grade two listed Lower Sketty Green Lodge inside Singleton Park going up for sale for £359,950. The unique and individual detached, two-bedroom, thatched roof cottage was originally built in the 1830s as one of the gatehouses and boasts a wealth of history.

If you fancied moving in but couldn't afford it, an opportunity has now come up to at least get a sense of what it would be like to live there, thanks to the new owner who has turned it into an Airbnb property.

George Gilberthorpe bought the cottage last November together with a friend, and initially lived there, but then admitted he saw an "an opportunity in lockdown" due to the staycation boom, and decided in March earlier this year that it would be a unique property to rent out as an Airbnb.

He said: "We've had quite a few people to stay so far, it's been pretty busy and it's nice that people can come and experience staying at a thatched cottage. It's a unique opportunity to be there and it's in a perfect location because it's out of the way of the busyness, but still close to Mumbles, close to Gower."

Mr Gilberthorpe likened the experience of staying there to that of a popular Hollywood blockbuster.

He said: "If you've ever seen the film The Holiday, it's very much the feeling of that. It has got a little gas fire inside, it's a thatched cottage, it's very similar to that, it's idyllic in many ways. The price to stay varies, if it's high season it's a couple of hundred, otherwise it is £100 and something a night.

"It's a quirky experience which a lot of customers like, it's very romantic."

Mr Gilberthorpe also offers up the old Oystermouth Chapel as an Airbnb., which has recently been converted into a three bedroom home with a mix of contemporary and traditional features incorporated from the original chapel.
