OpenAI is expanding collaboration inside ChatGPT with two major updates. The company has rolled out shared projects to all users globally and introduced a new “company knowledge” feature for Business, Enterprise, and Education customers.
Starting today, shared projects are available to everyone, including Free, Plus, Pro, and Go users on the web, iOS, and Android. With shared projects, ChatGPT can use anything inside the project, from chats and uploaded files to custom instructions. It also allows users to pick up where others left off, which makes it easier to work together on reports, content, and research.
The feature is said to simplify group work by letting collaborators upload notes, proposals, contracts, or datasets in one place. Project owners can control visibility by choosing to share with “only those invited” or “anyone with a link,” and can change this setting anytime. Though the collaboration limits vary by plan, for example, Pro users can have up to 40 files and 100 collaborators, Plus and Go users can have 25 files and 10 collaborators, while Free users are limited to 5 files and 5 collaborators.
Furthermore, OpenAI has also updated the model for signed-out users to GPT-5 Instant, offering higher-quality responses by default. This means even users who aren’t logged in can now experience faster and more capable AI replies without needing a subscription.
Along with that, the new “company knowledge” feature makes ChatGPT more useful for organizations. It allows the chatbot to pull answers from an organization’s connected apps like Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, GitHub, HubSpot, and Asana, while respecting existing user permissions. ChatGPT provides answers that are specific to the company’s context, complete with citations and links back to the original sources.
To use company knowledge, users can start a chat, select the “company knowledge” option under the message composer, and ask a question. ChatGPT will then search across connected tools to return relevant, cited results. The feature is available to Business, Enterprise, and Education customers, and aligns with OpenAI’s broader effort to make ChatGPT a serious tool for workplace productivity and collaboration.
