You can now go on a Lion King safari in Kenya and visit the real Pride Rock

After the release of the new Lion King trailer last week, the iconic ‘90s film is firmly back on our radar.

If you can’t wait to go and watch the new live-action version of the film next summer, The Safari Collection has just launched a Lion King-inspired safari in Kenya, where you visit the animals and locations that inspired the movie – but it won’t come cheap.

The private safari will be guided by Robert Carr-Hartley, who was the animator’s guide during their research in the original film and helped to provide inspiration for many of the locations that were animated on the big screen.

The safari will begin with a night at influencer favourite, Giraffe Manor, in Nairobi – known for the herd of giraffes that poke their necks through windows and join guests for breakfast. After spending time with the giraffes, the forest behind the manor houses roaming warthogs, the animal that inspired ‘Pumba’ in the film.

Afterwards, take a short domestic flight to Laikipia for a two-night stay at Borana Lodge – where guests can enjoy sundowners on the very rock that inspired Pride Rock overlooking the ‘Pride Lands’ below and the Hyena Valley Dam where you can spot Scar’s clumsy sidekicks.

Another domestic flight will take you to Samburu for two nights, close to the Buffalo Springs and a lion conservation area, where you will spend a night under the stars looking for the ‘Leo’ lion astrological constellation.

A final domestic flight will take you to the famed Masai Mara for two nights, where you will stay in the heart of lion territory and wake up to the sounds of the pride’s morning roar.

The Safari Collection are marketing this trip towards families and have put the price point at £23,458 for a family of four including accommodation with full board, game drives, conservation fees, road transfers and domestic flights. While this is close to the average annual UK salary, it would certainly be the trip of a lifetime.
