You can now buy Marmite-flavoured hummus from Tesco

Marmite has been dividing the nation’s taste buds since it was launched in 1902 - but its latest product could be its most controversial yet.

The iconic brand has launched a Marmite-flavoured hummus which is now available at Tesco.

The yeast dip retails for £1.50 per pot and seems to have been developed after a Twitter user posted a picture of Marmite toast topped with hummus in March.

The picture was retweeted by Marmite who added: “The Marmite combinations are flooding in. Marmite and hummus anyone?”

The ingredients include cooked chickpeas with Marmite, tahini sesame seed paste, lemon juice from concentrate and garlic purée.

It’s not the first controversial flavour combination the brand has produced. Last year we saw the launch of Marmite peanut butter - the first new permanent product since the brand’s launch over a century ago.

In June, the company also made a surprising alignment, launching a new body wash and spray with Lynx. At the time, Jamie Brooks, Lynx Brand Manager commented: “By combining two iconic legends that have shaped dating and breakfast culture across the nation, we have created a product like no other that is sure to get lovers and haters spreading the news.”

While we’re still unsure on the latter, we’re not going to slight Marmite hummus until we try it.
