It's taken seven years of meticulous planning and lots of fought-out amendments but Bristol's groundbreaking surfing attraction will be taking bookings from 12pm today (Tues, Aug 20).
The first-ever inland surfing lake, opening on the outskirts of our city, promises thrill-seekers the chance to ride 1,000 perfect waves an hour.
Built on a 70-acre farmland site in Easter Compton, riders can now purchase their ticket for a sessions on the surfing lagoon.
The Wave's crowdfunders and Early Riders are being offered the first chance to book lessons and spaces at the venue.
For advanced surfers, they'll be able to practise their skills on waves peaking at 1.9 metres, which last for around 15 seconds.
But bosses want the attraction to cater for all abilities so there is also the chance to ride waves which reaches just over half a metre.
The surf sessions at The Wave will cost £40-45 for an adult and £30-35 for a child depending on the time of year and day of the week. A 1.5hr surf session with coaching will cost £55-60 for an adult and £45-50 for a child.
All prices always include everything you need, including wetsuit and surfboards.
Once open, fans will be able to surf during daylight hours, which will of course vary throughout the year.
It look likes the site is set to launch in October, when customers can use the lake between 9am to 5pm.
Alongside the 185m-long lake there will also be a restaurant, surf shop, gardens for visitors to explore and 25 glamping pods which visiting surfers will use as accommodation.
The Wave is the brainchild of Nick Hounsfield who teamed up with Wavegarden to construct the major project.
