'You can get Christmas dinner in a burger here - so I went to check it out'

A popular Bolton takeaway-turned-gastropub has released its mouth-watering festive menu.

Word on the Meat has become a must-visit destination for fans of dirty burgers and loaded fries since it opened at the Waggon and Horses, Westhoughton, in September.

Its meaty menu also includes steaks, sharing platters and indulgent offerings such as breakfast spring rolls.

Now, with Christmas upon us, the eatery has created a number of festive specials that are sure to get taste buds tingling.

Two courses from the menu cost £24 or you can treat yourself to a three-course feast for an extra fiver.

Here are some of the stand-outs from the new menu:

Holy Xmas Burger

Holy Xmas - 'this thing is a monster' (Manchester Evening News)

Comprising of a venison and beef patty, stuffing-crumb fried turkey breast, melted brie, cranberry ketchup, and sprout slaw - this thing is a monster.

There is no dignified way to eat that, but from the picture and description you probably know that before you order it.

Each bite you'll notice different flavours and textures, that is if you can get your mouth around it!

It is absolutely delicious though and is topped with a pig in blanket, just to make it extra festive.

Christmas Tree

As delectable as it is visually striking, the Christmas Tree dessert is not like any dessert you are likely to find in a pub.

Served on a bed of snow-like candyfloss and icing sugar, the incredibly imaginative dessert is made up a white chocolate and cinnamon mousse, rose marmalade, pear sauce and breadcrumbs - in the shape of a Christmas tree, complete with green glaze.

It tastes spectacular as well.

Christmas cocktails

With it being a bar, of course, there are some festive cocktails to pair with your food.

The Black Forest Espresso Martini is a fruity twist on an old classic, while the warming Sally Cinnamon Christmas smells unreal and is sure to be a hit with coffee lovers.

Other items on the menu include starters - macaroni and goat cheese balls, braised short rib and ox tail rillette, and hot smoked salmon. The mains are turkey pauplette, roasted hake fillet, or the vegetarian sage potato gnocchi.

If you do not fancy the Christmas tree, other sweet treats are the chocolate and clementine tart, and Santa's pudding.

The festive menu is available now and runs until Christmas Eve.
