WORKERS could earn an extra £7,500 a year with the UK’s top side hustle, employment experts have revealed.
Delivery roles are in high demand with half of those interested in part-time work favouring driving jobs for hospitality, retail and postal services, according to leading recruitment platform AppJobs.
A further 22 per cent are looking to secure a position in the freelance industry, reflecting a greater desire to achieve a better work-life balance.
Alok Alstrom, founder of AppJobs, said: “Opportunities in the delivery sector have soared in number in the past few years as demand for greater convenience grows.
“It’s now a normal part of life to have a takeaway or clothes delivered that we ordered online with the click of a few buttons.
“As a result of this drive towards consumer convenience, the work and pay conditions for delivery drivers have improved and made it an attractive position for a growing number of jobseekers.
“I think the pandemic has given us a greater desire than ever before to find work that can fit around our lives, rather than fitting our lives around our work.”
AppJobs is one of the UK’s leading jobs platforms, matching applicants to flexible gig economy roles with companies such as Uber and Doordash.
Since being created in 2017, AppJobs has gained nearly two million members in 500 cities across 40 different countries and has connected half a million job seekers with apps and services.
Its data shows three quarters of UK jobseekers want to find delivery or freelance jobs to begin the new year.
With hourly rates between £7 and £12, a part-time delivery driver working 12 hours per week could earn up to £7,488 per year.
The next most popular sector is pet sitting or walking jobs with five percent of people showing an interest.
Cleaning jobs comes next with five percent too, followed by handyman jobs at four percent, virtual assistant roles at three percent and driver jobs at one percent.
Online surveys, babysitting jobs and working from home complete the top ten of popular roles.
