You can deposit recycling at Sainsbury's and earn £25 a day

Sainsbury's has launched a new recycling scheme where it will pay customers for the plastic bottles it deposits.

In a trial the supermarket chain is offering to pay up to £25 a pop every time they visit the store, depending on how much they recycle.

The trial, which is being piloted at the firm's Lincoln superstore, gives customers 5p coupons for every piece of unwanted plastic deposited.

Plastic bottles of up to three litres can be exchanged, as well as metal cans, reports Grimsby Live.

The only catch is that the containers you deposit must be from products available to buy in Sainsbury's. This means while you can recycle bottles from big brands like Coca-Cola, you won’t be able to deposit own-brand ones from other retailers.

Those using the scheme will get a 5p Sainsbury's voucher for each item, and can return up to 500 items per visit – meaning could get up to £25 off your shopping.

For now, the trial is only running in the Lincoln store, however the grocer said it plans to extend it to four more stores including some smaller shops in the next few weeks and added it could be rolled out nationwide later.

The scheme is similar to the reverse vending machine demonstrated at an event last year where people were able to feed their empty cans and bottles into the device and were given a voucher worth 10p for each one deposited.
