You can buy your own graveyard and chapel, complete with headstones and buried bodies in Swansea

Ever fancied owning your very own graveyard? An opportunity has arisen to do just that in Swansea .

Bethlehem Chapel, off Carmarthen Road in Fforestfach , has gone up for sale by informal tender via Chartered Surveyors.

The Grade II listed building consists of a two-acre graveyard, a detached chapel and a vestry building.

And the unusual opportunity has already generated a huge amount of interest from prospective buyers, according to the property company marketing it.

Councillor Wendy Lewis has a long history with the church, having been a flower girl for her aunt there when she was seven-years-old.

She said: "Personally I would still like to see it as a church. I would love it to be sold to someone to do something with it for the community.

"It is the perfect place for that, right opposite the school and community farm. A lot of people could use it.

"The graves concern me, there has to be a covenant put in place. There's a lot of people in the community who visit graves there.

"I would not think you could build houses on there because there is a graveyard. I'm hoping the community will get together and try and do something and buy it.

"It was a fabulous and lovely church. I was a flower girl there for my aunt when I was seven and have got happy memories of it."

Internally the chapel comprises an entrance lobby leading to main congregational room and first floor gallery seating area. The pews, pulpit and organ are in situ.

There is a further room to the rear, WC and a connecting store room. The vestry room has its own front access and provides a hall with a raised timber stage with a kitchen room to the side.

The premises is set back from the road with a small vehicle access road leading to the building. The buildings are set within a large site in excess of two acres. The majority of the site has graves.

Nick Founds, of RJ Chartered Surveyors, added: "This has generated a huge amount of interest. We're looking to conclude matters by informal tender by August 23."

Offers must be received by 12 noon on Friday, August 23. Head here to express your interest.
