Scots shopping centres install vending machines where you can buy £1 face masks and gloves

Face mask vending machines are being rolled out across a number of shopping centres in Scotland.

Shoppers can buy a range of PPE while out and about, including gloves and anti-bacterial gel for as little as £1.

The vending machines will also dispense paper and fashion coverings as well as higher-grade KN95 masks.

Wearing a face covering is now mandatory when in a shop or on public transport in Scotland in a bid to slow the spread of coronavirus.

The PPE vending machines will be available at six locations in Scotland, including Dundee, Glasgow, Paisley and Aberdeen (Logistical Supplies)

Those south of the border will have to follow suit come July 24 after the UK Government announced similar measures.

Nicola Sturgeon announced the measures and said the use of facial coverings must not be used as an alternative to good hygiene in her change of policy.

The PPE vending machines will be available at six locations in Scotland, including Dundee, Glasgow, Paisley and Aberdeen.

Logistical Supplies claims it is the first in Scotland to dispense coronavirus protection to the public.

It is hoped the vending machines will help social distancing in busy areas - such as shopping centres - and could become as commonplace as an ATM machine during the pandemic.

With lockdown restrictions easing, shopping and travel centres have placed orders for over 400 machines so people can always obtain protection against Covid-19 while on the go.

The vending machines will be available at:

  • Overgate Dundee
  • The Forge shopping centre
  • Braehead
  • Paisley Shopping Centre
  • Trinity shopping centre Aberdeen
  • St Enoch Glasgow

It will stock face Masks (3ply) for £1, KN95 Masks for £5.95 and fashion Masks at £4.95.

The vending machine will also dispense anti-bacterial gel for £3.95 and a 10-pack of gloves for £1.95.

With a 22-inch interactive touch screen, it will accept all methods of payment, including Apple Pay.
