Tributes have been paid to a pillar of Manchester's Nigerian community, who died with Covid-19 just before Christmas.
Father-of-six Babatunde Elemosho, 62, from Gorton, passed away in hospital on December 23. He was 62.
The project worker was a well-known volunteer in the city's Nigerian community. He was chief executive of the Community Inspire Foundation and was involved in the 1st Levenshulme Manchester Boys Brigade.
He was a former general secretary of the Nigeria Community Manchester, a on-political, non-religious and not for profit body that represents the cultural, social, welfare and economic interests of every Nigerian in Greater Manchester.
Ahmed Sule, acting High Commissioner at Nigeria's embassy in London, led tributes to Mr Elemosho.
He said: "It is with great sadness, I received the news of the demise of Mr Babatunde Elemosho the past Secretary General of Nigeria Community in Manchester. He is indeed a personality who gave a lot to the people of Manchester and beyond."
A gofundme page has been set up to raise £5,000 towards a memorial in his name.
Ade Arogundade, a former chairman of Nigeria Community Manchester, said: "Tunde, you came, you saw and you conquered. The entire Nigeria community in diaspora would forever remember you for all you stood for. You were passionate in all you did for us.
"Your commitment could not be over-emphasised. You were truly a very devoted colleague, brother and a very good friend."
Current chair Augusta Ugoh said: "He gave his time selflessly to enhance the activities of the Nigerian Community Manchester. He craved perfection for the NCM.
"Mr Elemosho was ever there, enthusiastically, for everyone smiling, helpful and tirelessly engaging with people.
"Who would have thought December, 2020 we in the community will be mourning a great man of honour like Mr Elemosho. This is a bitter pill to swallow. He will be dearly missed. We pray to God to comfort his family and friends."
