'You better be careful' - James Milner's message to Jordan Henderson over Liverpool position

Jurgen Klopp has opened up on what James Milner said to Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson during their win over West Ham.

The Reds ran out 3-1 winners at the London Stadium, thanks to a brace from Mohamed Salah and a strike from Gini Wijnaldum, with Craig Dawson bagging a consolation goal for the hosts.

The game in the capital also saw Klopp name a centre-back pairing of Henderson alongside Nat Phillips, with the pair doing a solid job just as they did in the second half against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek.

Much of the talk in recent months has been about Liverpool’s need to sign a central defender, and they have only intensified after Fabinho and Joel Matip picked up injuries this week.

Klopp has stated publicly his desire to bring in a new defender before the deadline, but has been able to rely on Henderson in a makeshift capacity when required.

Speaking after the final whistle at the London Stadium, Klopp says that Milner was complementary of Henderson’s skills at centre-back.

“I say it all the time, in our situation it makes sense,” Klopp told Sky Sports, when asked if he would like to sign a centre-back before Monday’s deadline.

“Nat Phillips played a decent game and Millie shouted at Hendo that you better be careful, if you play like this then you will play here for years!”

Henderson and Phillips could have an opportunity to play at centre-back together again when Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield on Wednesday night.
