"You are welcome here" - Edinburgh MSP urgently reminds EU citizens they have to register twice to vote

Scottish Members of Parliament have been making efforts across social media to remind EU citizens who live in Scotland that they have to register to vote in the upcoming European elections (even if they have already registered to vote in the UK elections).

Elections for the European Parliament will be held on 23 May 2019 across the UK.

Voters in Scotland will elect six of the 736 members of the European Parliament who are responsible, along with the Council of Ministers from member states, for making laws and approving budgets.

If you are an EU citizens living in Edinburgh, you should have received an email or letter from the Electoral Registration office. However, if you are an EU citizen who is not a UK citizen there are a number of steps you must do.

EU Citizens living in Scotland need to fill out an additional form in order to vote in the upcoming European elections.

The deadline for the form is next Tuesday, 7th May 2019.

Emma Harper, MSP said in a video released on her Twitter yesterday:

"EU Citizens you are welcome in Scotland, we want you to participate in the EU vote and we need you to fill out this extra form so that you can be fully registered to vote in the May 23rd elections coming up."
