Keith Hackett's verdict

1) The manager is wrong. The technical area isn't his own personal empire – it's simply a designated zone from where he can convey tactical instructions while, say the laws, "behaving in a responsible manner". Ask him to stand aside to allow the player space to take the kick – and if he fails to respond in a positive manner, send him to the stands for delaying the restart. Brian Fitch wins the shirt.
2) The simplest way to approach this is to say that one of these two throws was clearly taken from the wrong position. Stop play and restart with a retaken throw from the correct spot, and, if necessary, have a quiet word with the over-eager ballboys. Thanks to Walker Boyd.
3) Caution the team-mate for dissent and award an indirect free-kick to the defending side. This strip has been making the point for over 50 years – you are the ref, and it's your decision: players do not run the game. This player has turned an attacking position into a defending position, and earned himself a yellow card. Hopefully he will learn the lesson. Thanks to Tom Easby.
