'You are one of us mate' - Bristol Rovers fans bid farewell to Gas legend Chris Lines

Dozens of Bristol Rovers fans have given their heartfelt reactions to Chris Lines' announcement that he is leaving the club in the wake of his 500th appearance for the club.

The veteran midfielder was given a raucous reception when he come off the bench during the 2-1 win over Barnsley on Saturday.

The 33-year-old first turned out for the Gas in 2006 as a 19-year-old. He left the club five years later to join Sheffield Wednesday before joining Port Vale and eventually returning to the Memorial Stadium in 2015 on an initial loan.

Having become a fans' favourite, he was greeted by chants of 'Chrisy Lines, he's one of our own' as he entered the fray for his first appearance since February 9.

Dozens of Gasheads have taken to social media to react to the news and wish the Bristolian well.

The 500th and final appearance had been a long-time coming for the Bristolian who hadn't featured for the first team in a league game since February 9 and had instead been playing for the Development Squad throughout much of manager Graham Coughlan's six-month tenure at the club.

However despite the acrimonious end to his time at Rovers, Lines will be forever remembered for some vintage years at the club as he rejoined the Gas in 2015, signing for manager Darrell Clarke, after the Gas were promoted back into League Two.

He played 36 games for the club that season as Rovers won back-to-back promotions.
