Yorkshire Wildlife Park faces fierce criticism for not giving refunds after cancelling concert

Families could be left hundreds of pounds out of pocket after a big event at Yorkshire Wildlife Park (YWP) was cancelled with just a few hours notice due to concerns about high wind speeds.

Tickets to the wildife park's Safari Nights concerts cost up to £27 each, but people hoping to watch Gabrielle and Claire Richards perform tonight (Saturday, August 10) have been told that the event will no longer go ahead.

At 11am, YWP put an update across its social media channels to say that the Safari Night concert would be going ahead if weather conditions stayed the same.

However, that decision was reversed at 3pm, just four hours before the concert was due to go ahead. The wildlife park cited safety concerns as the reasons for the cancellation.

People have been told that their tickets will be valid for either of the next two concerts on Saturday, August 17 or Saturday, August 24 - but plenty of people have commented on YWP's Facebook page to say they should be offered refunds instead.

One person said: "I booked the weekend off work and am not able to attend the other safari nights due to working."

Another person has travelled the length of the country for tonight's concert. She said: "Totally understand however cannot make other dates as travelled from Hampshire specially for this event. Can we have a refund?"

One ticket holder simply said: "Refunds need to apply to those who can't come next week or the week after."
