Yorkshire Water release disgusting picture of huge wet wipes blockage found in West Yorkshire sewer

Yorkshire Water discovered a huge wet wipes blockage in West Yorkshire - and have released a jaw-dropping picture to prove it.

Residents are being urged not to flush wet wipes down the toilet after the digusting black mass was found in a sewer.

The utility company responded to an incident where they cleaned a 40-metre stretch of sewer which was packed with silt, stones and wet wipes.

Once it was cleared, the sewer level reduced by almost a metre.

They are now pleading with local residents to make sure they are only flushing the three P’s - pee, poo and (toilet) paper.

They said once items such as wipes and sanitary products are flushed they enter the sewage system like all other waste, and can cause blockages in pipes and pumps.

Mark Hammond, head of customer field services at Yorkshire Water said: “Our frontline workers work hard to ensure that everyone has access to clean running water and can dispose of waste. It’s really important that residents pay attention to our guidance around what to and what not to flush.

“We’re asking residents of West Yorkshire to help us help you, by only flushing pee, (toilet) paper or poo.”
