Yorkshire Tea warns BLM critic 'don't buy our tea again' in stand against racism

Yorkshire Tea told a Black Lives Matter critic to find another brand after they suggested it did not care about the movement.

The move came after a far-right Yorkshire-based YouTuber tweeted that she was 'dead chuffed' with Yorkshire Tea not supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

However the brand hit back at the tweet, telling her 'please don't buy our tea again' in response.

The brand said it stood against racism in the post, following protests across the world in response to the killing of African American George Floyd.

PG Tips later waded into the row after a customer warned they would switch to the rival brand over Yorkshire Tea's 'bulls**t stance'.

The label told the Twitter user 'you're going to have to find two new tea brands now' after rejecting her boycott threat.

PG Tips tweeted #solidaritea in response to the woman's post, expressing its support for the fight against racism.

Mr Floyd died after a white policeman knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes in Minneapolis, USA, on May 25.

Many brands have issued statements of support to the Black Lives Matter movement since his death.

Sportswear labels Adidas and Nike are two to have done so, and the latter has pledged $40 million to support black communities.

Today, the Twitter account @thisislaurat, belonging to right wing Youtuber Laura Towler, tweeted: "I’m dead chuffed that Yorkshire Tea hasn’t supported BLM."

To which Yorkshire Tea's official account replied: "Please don't buy our tea again.

The statement from Yorkshire Tea, which is owned by Twinings, received a lot of support across social media, Yorkshire Live reports.

Former rugby union England international Brian Moore added: "Well done."

Some were unimpressed with the label's response.

She tweeted: "So now I've got to buy PG Tips??

"Well f me. This sucks. And Yorkshire Tea is done. Good luck with the bs stance."

In a fiery response, PG Tips tweeted: "Yeah it does suck, Pamela.

"If you are boycotting teas that stand against racism, you're going to have to find two new tea brands now #blacklivesmatter #solidaritea"

Twitter user PamelaWS (@bonmarche946) slammed the brand for its 'bs stance' and threatened to switch to PG Tips.
