Yorkshire racism scandal: How widespread is racism in cricket amid Azeem Rafiq report?

Cricket has been left rocked by the Yorkshire racism scandal, with more players coming forward to say they were subject to abuse during their time playing at the club.

Yorkshire chairman Roger Hutton has resigned over the scandal, issuing an explosive statement that said fellow executives refused to change the culture of the club and claimed the ECB had declined to help with an inquiry he instigated following Azeem Rafiq's initial reports of racist abuse.

The ECB has stripped Yorkshire of the right to host England and Hundred matches over the scandal, which saw the club decline to take disciplinary action on a player who admitted using a racial slur.

Former England batsman Gary Ballance has admitted to using the slur when referring to Rafiq, whilst legendary England figure Michael Vaughan has denied making racist comments whilst playing for the county.

MP Julian Knight, who is chair of the DCMS select committee, which will be hearing evidence from both Rafiq and those involved in the scandal later this month, says he has now heard from other players who have been subjected to racist abuse.

It has left the sport of cricket rocked, adding to the feeling that a once-ethnically diverse game has alienated large parts of society.
