The ex-wife of Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe has been told she can finally sell his home.
Sonia Sutcliffe could be set for a £280,000 windfall a year after he died, having been declared sole owner of the detached house they bought for £16,000 in 1977. It has stood empty for decades.
Sonia, 71, knew nothing of her ex-husband’s crimes until he was caught in 1981.
He was given 20 life sentences for murdering 13 women and attempting to murder another seven. The families of some of his victims previously called for the Bradford home to be sold so they could receive compensation.
But the Crown Prosecution Service would not pursue a proceeds of crime order against Sonia as she was not involved.
Sutcliffe terrorised northern England from 1975 onwards with savage attacks across Yorkshire and Manchester.
He wed Sonia in 1974. They split eight years after he was jailed and divorced in 1994. The ex-lorry driver died last year, aged 74, after refusing Covid treatment.
Neil Jackson, 63, whose mum Emily was Sutcliffe’s second murder victim, said: “It makes my blood boil. We received no compensation, yet he had these assets.”
The Mirror has approached Sonia for comment but received no response.
