York Ebor runner guide and tips: Five of the best each-way bets for Saturday's feature

Ante-post favourite Live Your Dream may race for Saeed bin Suroor's third success in the Sky Bet Ebor.

Successful with All The Good (2008) and Willie Foe (2012), the Godolphin trainer intends to rely upon the progressive Iffraaj gelding in Saturday's feature.

The winner of three out of his last four starts, he is first reserve for the big handicap and needs a horse to come out to get a run.

Off a 7lb higher mark from his Newmarket win, he is due to be reunited with Pat Cosgrave, triumphant when aboard on his penultimate start.

The stats do not favour the favourites however, with seven of the last ten renewals won by horses starting at odds of 11-1 or greater.

Other strong trends include 18 of the last 19 winners being aged six or younger and 17 carried 9st 5lb or less.

Here are five runners at each-way odds to note in Saturday's big race...

MIRANN 12-1 *

One of two runners for Johnny Murtagh, who won the race in 2014 with Mutual Regard.

Owned by the OTI Racing Syndicate based in Australia, Mirann finished fourth in the Duke of Edinburgh at Ascot.

That was an excellent effort in the circumstances, as he dropped to last with a couple of furlongs left, before staying on with purpose on the heavy ground.

At Leopardstown 44 days ago, he was short of room under a 10lb claimer and again did not reach the leaders.

Off the same mark of 103, with Adam Kirby taking over, he should go very well with a smoother run.

EAGLES BY DAY 25-1

The son of Sea The Stars was triumphant over the Ebor course and distance on his first start for trainer David O'Meara in July of last year.

With regular rider Danny Tudhope in the saddle, he made good headway to move into a challenging position and kept on strongly once his head was in front.

The assessor moved him up to a mark of 111, a berth he has occupied for his subsequent four starts in Group company.

Off for 322 days prior to his seasonal comeback in the Glorious Stakes last month, he started slowly and was never in contention.

That may well have blown away the cobwebs with this race a big target and there will be worse 25-1 shots.

SHANROE 14-1

A dual-purpose performer, Robbie Colgan's mount secured his spot in the field through a qualifying race at the Curragh.

Progressive on the Flat and over jumps, his rating has risen under both codes for his small yard at Skerries, County Dublin.

Trainer Karl Thornton has suggested he wasn't at this best on his most recent start, which he toughed out – and has faith in his horse that he has more to offer.

He will have to travel over better than when disappointing at Haydock, with the team having a new plan to help him settle in before his trip to the Knavesmire.

Thornton warmed up for this by sending Shanroe Al C to deliver at Perth in recent days – and his stablemate is respected in a race which should play to his strengths.

HAMISH 9-1

William Haggas entered the five-year-old in the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup, but has plumped for the handicap option instead.

At three, Tom Marquand's mount struck twice over the Ebor course and distance, on good to firm and soft ground.

He appeared only the once last season, finishing fourth of nine in the Hardwicke Stakes – and has clearly not been the easiest to train.

Well-supported in recent days, his backers obviously feel he can resume his 2019 upward curve.

His neck second to subsequent Group 1 winner Trueshan in a conditions event is a noteworthy piece of form on his CV.

TRIBAL CRAFT 14-1

Runner-up to Wonderful Tonight in the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes, Andrew Balding's filly remains on the same mark with the Ebor weights published in July.

A comfortable scorer at York earlier in the season, from Urban Artist, who has held her form well since, Tribal Craft is an improver at the trip.

On previous years fillies owned by Jeff Smith often take time to fully bloom and she races along similar lines, often patiently ridden.

Although she was probably flattered to get so close to Wonderful Tonight at Goodwood, committed for home early, there is no doubting she has a bit in hand at the weights.

As she has done so well on soft ground, backers will be hoping for some rain in the build-up.
