The Yomiuri Shimbun and general logistics enterprise SBS Group will next month start to fully launch their home delivery service in Tokyo, covering all 23 wards by the summer.
The business aims to create a new home delivery network by combining the delivery capabilities of Yomiuri Center (YC), which delivers Yomiuri Shimbun newspapers, and SBS Group's logistics know-how and information systems. The service is called YC Otodoke Bin (YC delivery).
The service is already operating in limited areas of Tokyo, starting with Suginami Ward last June, before expanding to Nerima and Nakano wards in November. From the middle of March, the service area will be gradually expanded to cover Tokyo's 23 wards by the end of July.
At present, the service handles packages that have no set delivery time and those for delivery from evening onward.
Meanwhile, the SBS Group is preparing to establish a home delivery network within Tokyo and three other prefectures, expanding a high-quality delivery network in conjunction with YC Otodoke Bin.
"YC's delivery is of a high quality," said SBS Holdings Co.'s President Masahiko Kamata at an earnings briefing on Wednesday. "Together with The Yomiuri Shimbun, we aim to expand our home delivery network and offer services that major companies don't have."
The Yomiuri Shimbun Holdings' public relations department said: "We aim to further strengthen our door-to-door delivery network by increasing revenue through delivery, which is where YC excels. By combining the SBS Group's extensive experience with YC's delivery capabilities, we will continue to have enhanced services."
