The Day of Atonement is the holiest day of the Jewish calendar where Jews around the world pray and fast for over 24 hours. On Erev Yom Kippur (the day before Yom Kippur) orthodox Jews perform Kapparot which is a ritual symbolising the transferal of one’s sins on to a chicken which is then slaughtered. Money can be used as a substitute and is then given to charity.
