CHICAGO _ Miguel Gonzalez allowed just two runs on seven hits, struck out a season-high nine Tigers and walked none Friday, but it wasn't enough to earn the White Sox right-hander a decision during his team's 3-2 win against the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Gonzalez, who has allowed four runs in his last 28 innings pitched, was picked up by Yolmer Sanchez and Tim Anderson in the ninth, though.
Anderson doubled to lead off the inning and scored when Sanchez poked a single into right field for the victory, the Sox's sixth in nine games.
Jose Abreu hit a first-inning solo home run and reached base the first four times he batted, including three against Justin Verlander.
Earlier Friday, the Sox placed second baseman Yoan Moncada on the 10-day disabled list with a contusion on his right leg. They also activated Matt Davidson from the 10-day disabled list, though he was not in the starting lineup.
Outfielder Nicky Delmonico originally was in the White Sox lineup but was a late scratch with a sprained right wrist and didn't play.
Both teams are wearing special uniforms this weekend in honor of Players Weekend. Most feature nicknames on the back rather than last names, and some players are wearing custom shoes to commemorate the event.
The Sox improved to 51-76, while the Tigers fell to 55-72.
Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez had three hits.
Verlander allowed two runs, six hits, two walks and struck out eight in seven innings.
