Yokozuna Hakuho, Kakuryu stay near Tochinoshin

Both yokozuna Hakuho and Kakuryu maintained their one-loss records on Day 7 of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan on Saturday to trail sekiwake Tochinoshin, who stayed perfect without lifting a finger.

Hakuho had no ill effects from the previous day's loss as the yokozuna easily pushed out No. 4 maegashira Chiyotairyu with a firm grab of the maegashira's belt.

It was a tough bout for Kakuryu that lasted about 10 seconds. No. 3 maegashira Yutakayama charged hard, with the two exchanging slaps. But the yokozuna skillfully managed to slap down the maegashira outside the bales.

Tochinoshin won his bout by default because scheduled opponent, komusubi Endo, pulled out of the tournament earlier in the day.

Endo submitted to the Japan Sumo Association a medical certificate stating that he needs three weeks of medical treatment on the right arm injury he suffered in his bout against Mitakeumi on Friday.

It is the first time Endo has pulled out of a basho since the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament in July last year, when he suffered a left ankle injury.
