Yokohama Triennale 2020, an international art festival held every three years in the seaport city, opened on Friday, two weeks behind schedule due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
This is the seventh edition of the Triennale and it will run through Oct. 11. As a countermeasure against the spread of infections, advance reservations are required, and visitors are being requested to cooperate by wearing masks and having their temperature checked.
The exhibition will be held at two locations, the Yokohama Museum of Art and Plot 48 in Minatomirai, both of which are located in Nishi Ward. The works of about 65 domestic and overseas artists will be on display. The Indian artistic group Raqs Media Collective is curating the exhibition.
"We hope the power of art will spread cheerful feelings," Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi said.
