Yoel Romero claims Jake Paul backed out of fight after agreeing to bout

Yoel Romero has claimed that Jake Paul turned down a fight in the boxing ring after it had previously been agreed.

The YouTube star defeated former UFC star Tyron Woodley in his last bout with a split decision in Cleveland.

And Paul has instigated feuds with several athletes from the MMA field, including Ben Askren and now Woodley.

But former UFC athlete Romero has claimed that Paul turned down a meeting with him in order to pursue a clash with Askren.

“What happened was, initially Jake Paul wanted to do a fight with Yoel, but then when Yoel wanted to do it, the Paul team cancelled the fight,” Romero told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour .

“Initially they wanted to do the fight with Yoel. That was when he was just getting out of UFC, he had not signed with Bellator yet, and they said eventually no they don’t want Yoel, and they decided to go with Ben Askren.

“They don’t want to face a real fighter, [Jake and Logan Paul] are just trying to make it a show and they don’t want to ruin their show. They’re finding the easy fights. Even though (Logan) fought Mayweather, but the thing is, there’s a huge weight difference.”

Paul has been linked with a variety of opponents during his time in the sport, including huge crossover clashes with Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor.

And the 24-year-old has given updates on talks with the Irishman after his return from injury continues.

"It worked, and it sparked a whole onslaught of attention and media," Paul said to Full Send podcast of his infamous McGregor callout video, where he called the legendary fighter an "Irish c***", and insulted his fiancee Dee Devlin.

"And then, reporters are asking him about me. Now, that fight is getting more and more real as every single day goes on.

"I mean, yeah, it could definitely happen. There's talks with our managers. Anything is possible."

A huge crossover fight between the pair certainly looks possible with McGregor already setting foot in the iron square against Floyd Mayweather back in 2017.

But Paul has warned his new rival that he must "sober up" in order to secure a fight after his recent post-fight antics.

"We're on the path to a lot bigger fights. I'm salivating too, because I'm just getting warmed up," Paul said at the post-fight conference. " Conor McGregor has a lot more to focus on besides me right now. I'm five wins in a row. He is one and three in the past four years.

"So the guy needs to get off of his little vodka or whatever the f*** his brand is, and sober up and start to get back in the f****** gym and then we can f****** fight.

"But to be honest, no way he hits harder than Woodley, he doesn't weigh as much as Woodley, he's shorter than Woodley.

"I said it before the fight, I think Woodley is a harder fight than him, especially on the way he's going, Conor's going down, I'm going up. Woodley came in game, we will see."
