Yobs who punctured tyre on police car cause Belper car show to be cancelled

A popular East Midlands car show has been cancelled after yobs let down a police car's tyre.

The Hurt Arms Car Show, that takes place every month in Belper, has been scrapped due to a small number of people who had “complete disregard to authority when leaving the premises”.

The next event was due to take place on June 18 and would have involved a display of hundreds of show cars.

But the pub's manager, Luke Richards, said that some attendees had been showing off by pulling out aggressively on the A6, adjacent to the pub, DerbyshireLive reports.

This resulted in traffic officers stopping drivers in their tracks. He also revealed someone had let down a tyre on a police vehicle at a previous event.

Staff announced the news on the Hurt Arms Facebook page.

Mr Richards said: “It’s really disappointing because it was something that I wanted to promote because we had such a great attendance.

“Normally, there’s no trouble but we found that five per cent of the attendees would spoil things.

“After speaking to police and licensing, we couldn’t afford the amount of resources needed to make sure people were safe.

“These officers also have to go to call-outs and something like that can hinder them.

“We had hundreds of people that would attend the event and it was very popular but police cost money and it was discussed that we couldn’t continue in this manner”.

Mr Richards added that would be “unlikely” that the event would take place again.

Would-be attendees on Facebook have called the cancellation “an absolute travesty” and “massively disappointing”.

Jonathan Eades said: "I completely support your decision. Society seems increasingly full of people who think of nothing more than themselves or likes on social media.

"To the idiots - well done, you’ve ruined a fantastic event and venue - next you’ll be saying your bored and have nothing to do.

"What an utter shame but thanks to the Hurt Arms for your previous support."

Adam Foddy added: "Such a lovely car show ruined by the actions of one or two individuals.

"I hope in the future this decision is reconsidered. I was so looking forward to these meets over the summer months. I'm totally gutted."
