Yobs smash into visiting team's coach during match at Rochdale's Spotland Stadium

Thieves smashed their way into a football team's coach and stole a driver's bag during a match at Rochdale's Spotland Stadium.

The bus, hired by Wycombe Wanderers, was vandalised in the car park while they played on Saturday afternoon.

Rochdale chief executive David Bottomley said the only thing in the victim's bag was a Tachograph - a device to measure how far a driver has travelled.

The incident happened just after 3pm.

Photos show the front window and driver's door were completely smashed through during the 'mindless vandalism'.

Mr Bottomley said: "It was broken into in our car park. A driver's bag was stolen. All it had in it was his Tachograph. They smashed the window of the door and caused significant damage to the windscreen.

"Mindless vandalism has cost a lot of money and all it has done is annoy people.

"We have apologised to Wycombe. It's never happened before. It's terrible."

A replacement bus has since been arranged to take the team back to Buckinghamshire.

A spokesman for Wycombe Wanderers F.C. said: "An unfortunate incident happened during the game. Rochdale as a club were extremely helpful. We are very grateful to Rochdale for helping arrange a replacement coach."

The league one match ended in a 3-0 win to Wycombe.

GMP has been contacted for comment.
