Yobs 'launched fireworks' at police following out-of-control house party

Police have committed to setting up patrols on a housing estate after 'feral' partygoers 'launched fireworks at officers'.

The disturbance occurred on Saturday night (October 9) and involved dozens of youths who had spilled out onto the street during a rowdy house party, according to Leeds Live.

West Yorkshire police (WYP) said officers were called to Darfield Avenue in Harehills estate, Leeds, after receiving "a number of calls from residents reporting anti-social behaviour".

In an attempt to disperse the crowd, the party was shut down by police, however trouble soon spread to other streets nearby.

Residents captured images and videos of the commotion and uploaded them to social media, with one commenting in a community group: "It was a house party full of kids and it got shut down . Then they shot fireworks at police."

"Could see some innocent people running down getting out the way. But could hear all the feral f*****s causing havoc," said another.

Now, WYP has confirmed fireworks were set off in the street - but it did not say whether they were launched in the direction of officers.

A spokesman for the force said: "On Saturday night, police received a number of calls from residents reporting anti-social behaviour involving a large number of youths congregating around a party at an address in Darfield Avenue, Harehills.

"Officers attended and the address was closed down. There were further reports of anti-social behaviour in the surrounding streets, including fireworks being set off, and officers attended to disperse those involved.

"Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team will be increasing their patrols of the area to reassure residents and deter any further incidents."
