Yobs harass scared barmaid, kick in fence and throw bin at The Royal Oak bar in Bonnyrigg

A Midlothian bar have expressed their outrage after hundreds of pounds worth of damage was caused by a group of men who were refused entry.

The Royal Oak bar in Bonnyrigg told Edinburgh Live of their frustration after the group harassed one of their staff and then proceeded to vandalise the property.

On Sunday night (June 26), a group of around eight men approached the back door of the property just after 12.30am, when they were told by a 22-year-old barmaid that they were closing up for the evening.

After being told they would not be allowed to enter, the men suddenly changed their demeanor and began to harass the woman, and damage the property.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the manager of the Royal Oak said:

"The barmaid on shift saw the men making their way to the back gate and proceeded to go out and let them know that we were closed and she had just called last orders.

"The men then started shouting threats and suddenly a bin came flying over the fence at the wall, they then grabbed the fenced and started to kick and pull at it while another member of staff who was not on shift tried to hold it up while the barmaid ran to grab the key to lock the back door and call the police.

"Once the door was locked a couple who were sitting in the corner were suddenly covered in glass as the window directly behind them had been smashed. After this some of the men ran and others got into a car and sped away. Luckily neither staff or customers were hurt but this was a frightening ordeal for everyone involved."

The bar have only been open for a few weeks since the easing of lockdown measures, and have urged anyone with any information to contact the police.
