Yobs banned from town centre as police crack down on drugs and troublemakers

Police made three arrests, stopped a suspected drug deal and sent suspected trouble causers home during a night of concerted action in Birkenhead town centre.

Officers issued dispersal notices to two men suspected of causing anti-social behaviour on Grange Road in the town last night.

Police told them to stay away from the area for 48 hours.

Officers then stopped a car in the town centre and carried out a search, which found cannabis.

The driver of the car failed a drugs' test and was arrested at the scene.

Later in the shift police saw a suspected drug deal taking place between a member of the public and men in a car.

A man was then seen to throw away crack cocaine and heroin as police approached.

Officers arrested a man at the scene and then searched his flat. They found a large quantity of crack cocaine and heroin there and arrested another person at the flat for possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Earlier this month police used special powers to target yobs causing trouble in Birkenhead town centre. At the time police said some of the individuals had been using electric bikes to cause a nuisance.

Anyone with information about drugs and crime should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
