Yobs attack bus in Edinburgh leaving passengers covered in shattered glass

Scots passengers were left showered in shattered glass after their bus was attacked by yobs.

The number 31 service was targeted on Lasswade Road, Edinburgh shortly after 10pm on Friday 25 June.

It had been heading towards the city centre when it was targeted and its passengers were left terrified.

Although they had to dodge shards of smashed glass during their journey, no one was injured.

A witness told Edinburgh Live : "I was sitting on the higher seat just behind the smashed window, a couple were directly hit, both covered in glass but not hurt, I had glass on me and in my boots. It was very frightening."

Photos of the aftermath reveal a huge hole in the window with shards of glass scattered over seats and the floor of the vehicle.

Edinburgh Lothian Buses drivers were targeted in antisocial incidents on average five times per day during the recent lockdown.

A Freedom of Information Request by Edinburgh Live revealed there were a total of 552 incidents of anti-social behaviour towards drivers between December 26 2020 and April 21 2021. Of these, 92 incidents involved broken windows.

Scotland was placed under a strict Covid lockdown on Boxing Day and capital bus drivers endured a string of appalling attacks and anti-social behaviour in the months that followed.

In March, Lothian Buses released a harrowing video telling the story of an Edinburgh bus driver who was left scared to even board a bus after someone launched a rock through his window.

Police are now hunting those responsible for last night's attack.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.10pm, police received a report a bus window had been smashed in Lasswade Road, Edinburgh.

"No-one was injured and enquiries are ongoing."
