Yob who wielded metal bar during fight jailed for five months

A MAN who took part in a fight while wielding a metal bar has been jailed at his own request.

Jordan McGinn, 23, is keen to get back to working in Spain as quickly as possible.

With that in mind, his solicitor recommended a shorter prison sentence rather than a long-drawn out community payback order.

McGinn, from Motherwell, engaged in the fight on Coatbridge's Dunbeth Road last October and then damaged a door and window of a property.

Describing the incident, the procurator fiscal said: “At around 10.10pm, a householder heard a disturbance and looked out their window to see the accused and another party engaged in a fight.

“He was seen with a metal bar and the other party had a large knife.

“Throughout this time there was a verbal disturbance and one of them shouted ‘give me my phone back you f****** d*ck.’

“When police attended they saw footage that had been taken on a mobile phone and he was taken to Coatbridge police office.”

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll said: “I’ll sentence you to five months in prison which is reduced from six because of your plea.

“This is backdated until April 23.”
