Yob jailed after dragging girlfriend across Dumbarton petrol station forecourt

A thug who seized his terrified girlfriend by the hair and dragged her across a petrol station forecourt during a vicious and prolonged attack has been locked up.

Stephen Diamond appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week and was handed the 18-month term backdated to January 7.

The court also made an order meaning the 33-year-old will be monitored for nine months once released.

We previously reported how Diamond pursued the woman after she fled from a taxi at the Esso garage off the A82 in Dumbarton.

The 33-year-old, whose address was given as Low Moss jail, kicked her, knocked her to the ground, repeatedly pushed her and punched her during the horrific assault.

CCTV footage captured the sickening attack, on December 29 last year.

Diamond from Bellsmyre, who has previous convictions for domestic violence, pled guilty.

The court heard how his girlfriend suspected he had been texting other women and an argument broke out.

Fiscal depute Martina McGuigan said the couple had been drinking in Glasgow and got a taxi to Dumbarton at around 10.15pm.

The taxi pulled over at the Esso garage, prompting the woman to throw open the door and flee with his phone.

Diamond chased after her in pursuit, kicked her in the legs and pushed her.

The woman made her way over to the garage and pleaded with the a member of staff working there to phone police.
