Yob is jailed for six months after spitting on cop at Wishaw hospital and assaulting woman paramedic

A man who resisted arrest and spat at a police officer while at University Hospital Wishaw has been jailed.

William Paton pleaded guilty to three charges relating to the incident at the hospital on May 17.

Paton, 44, admitted adopting an aggressive manner towards police at the hospital and in an ambulance enroute to the facility.

He also repeatedly shouted, swore and made threats of violence.

Paton, of Woodside Tower, Motherwell, resisted arrest by struggling with police before spitting on the body of a male officer.

The accused also pleaded guilty to assaulting a female paramedic on May 10 in Flemington Street, Motherwell.

A charge the accused behaved in a threatening and abusive manner by aggressively shouting and swearing was also accepted by Paton.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court this week, Paton was sentenced to six months in prison by Sheriff Linda Nicolson.

This was reduced from nine months of account of Paton’s earlier guilty pleas.
