Yob defecates on children's football display during night of chaos at scarecrow festival

A yob defecated on a children's football team display during a night of chaos at a scarecrow festival in Bolton.

Reckless vandals also damaged a number of displays at Kearsley Scarecrow Festival, leaving the community in 'utter outrage'.

People had spent 'months' preparing their scarecrows, only to wake up and find their displays damaged on Sunday morning.

It is understood the incident happened on Saturday night, and anyone with information or CCTV is urged to contact police immediately.

A post put up on the GMP Bolton South page on Sunday afternoon said: "The Kearsley Scarecrow Festival is a fantastic event which every year brings the community around Kearsley, Prestolee and Stoneclough together.

"This morning the community has awoken to find mindless vandalism has occurred throughout the area and many of the displays the community have spent months working on have been damaged.

"These displays were for the enjoyment of the community and in particular our young children who have so much fun both creating and viewing these displays.

"Someone even found it funny to defecate on a kids football team's display. This has only brought the community together again, no longer in celebration but now in utter outrage.

"Whoever is responsible, when you reflect on your activities last night you should feel ashamed!"

The post was accompanied by a selection of photos of scarecrows which hadn't been damaged.
