Yob bit police constable on the hand during violent struggle at cop's office

An Airdrie yob who struggled violently with police officers and bit one on the hand has been tagged and placed under supervision.

James McGowan, of Springfield Road, admitted hindering two officers in the execution of their duty at Coatbridge police office on May 12.

He turned up at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week to hear his fate after the completion of reports examining the 33-year-old’s background.

McGowan’s defence solicitor, Darran Khorasani, told the court his client was remorseful and was “suitable for a community-based disposal”.

McGowan was then told he will be supervised for the next year and tagged for the following three months by Sheriff Morag Shankland.

His restriction of liberty order will result in him being confined to his home from 7pm to 7am; while, relating to McGowan’s community payback order with supervision, the sheriff added: “This [order] is a direct alternative to custody so if you breach it, you can be brought back before me – and you know what to expect.”
