Yob avoids jail after setting fireworks off in his Larkhall home

A yob has narrowly avoided jail after setting off fireworks in his Larkhall home.

Reece Hamilton, 25, was put under supervision for 18 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court and must attend addiction counselling.

He was also ordered to do 160 hours of unpaid community work.

Hamilton admitted culpably and recklessly setting off fireworks at his house in Cameronian Way on June 13 last year.

Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of his actions.

Defence agent Diarmid Bruce said Hamilton has drugs and mental health problems, but is now staying with his mum in Motherwell and that has had a positive effect.

Sheriff Thomas Millar said it appeared from background that there was a “complete lack” of appreciation by Hamilton that what he did was wrong.

Referring to his criminal record, the sheriff told him: “You’re coming very close to a situation where there will be no alternative to custody.

“If you breach either of these supervision and unpaid work orders you will be going to prison.”
