Yoan Moncada was in the lineup for the White Sox’ exhibition game against the Cubs Monday night at Guaranteed Field, meaning the third baseman would see his first game action since spring training after he tested positive for the coronavirus.
Moncada rejoined the team four days ago but has not played in an any of the team’s intrasquad scrimmages. He has looked good working out with the team and taking batting practice, manager Rick Renteria said Sunday.
The Sox open the season Friday against the Twins at home.
Moncada will bat second Monday, behind shortstop Tim Anderson.
Moncada was asymptomatic, so his physical health has not been a big concern. The biggest concern has been making sure Moncada’s legs are game ready.
Meanwhile, right fielder Nomar Mazara was out of the lineup for the second straight game. Renteria said Sunday that Mazara was “a little under the weather.” Adam Engel played right field against the Cubs Sunday night at Wrigley Field and Leury Garcia was in right field Monday.
Nick Madrigal is the starter at second base.
